The Gift & I

Here is a poem about the conflicting attitudes towards life hidden within each of us…

Which do you think is right the man or the boy….

The Gift and I

Ah ! What a joyous day has dawned ,
For a wondrous gift have I received,
Exquisite, delicate, beautiful yet strong,
I look upon this toy that glows with an ethereal hue,
I walk around in amazement,
Wish I knew how to play with it,
The man in me gazes upon it somberly with furrowed brow,
Studying it from a distance, inspecting , estimating , measuring calculating,
He writes reams of mathematics and doles out philosophy,
Nodding his head in sagacious wit,
Each nod hunching his shoulders with increasing burden ofwisdom,
But the boy in me , with a gleam in his eye and a smile in his heart,
Holds the gift of life in his arms and dances with it in mirth.
And as they dance, the gift fills him with heaven’s joy.
