ABCD – Any Body Can Dance is a breakthrough in Bollywood. New trends, some good dancing and a fabulous story line up is what’s in store for us. Remo D’Souza’s debut couldn’t be better. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur and story, direction by Remo D’Souza, ABCD is a dance extravagance.
As Hard Kaur raps in the climax song Sa da dil vi tu, we get goosebumps. A beautifully woven and fabulously projected movie with many a new talent is what Remo’s dream project is all about. He has successfully brought the talent from the small screen to the big cinema scope and taken the movie to a different level.
ABCD brings back the King of dance Prabhu Deva himself as the main lead. Must say it was a delight to see him on screen as fit as ever after so many years. He did justice to the role and held the movie going. On the other hand we have the ever so powerful Kay Kay Menon, who plays a negative role and does a fabulous job. Later as he emotes he makes you cry. A powerful performance by both the actors as they confront each other every now and then.
The cream from Dance India Dance (DID), a reality dance show on television is what Remo picked up for ABCD cast. They are the super heroes. The sail through our hearts with their super smooth grooves and foot tapping music makes the combo absolutely a wonder for the eyes and the ears. A few well known DID contestants like Salman, Dharmesh, Prince, Mayuresh, Vrushali, Puneet, Kishore, Bhawana, Saajan and so many little ones too, make their debut on the big screen in ABCD.
She beautifully dances on her toes, whirls and whirls round and round, hip-hops, ever so perfect. Lauren Gottlieb who plays the female lead in this movie was in Remo’s mind ever since he saw her the dance show ‘So you think you can dance’ (2005) is so refreshing to watch and her dance moves are exceptionally good. A good amount of screen presence and a fantastic dancer.
Then we have Ganesh Acharya who punched in the humour every now and then and he shows a few dance moves too. Overall a fantastic breakthrough in Indian cinema. The 3D effects are fabulous and the music keeps you hooked on. Bezubaan, Psycho re and Ga ga ga ga Ganpati are some numbers which are rocking chartbusters. A few interesting twists in the movies seem to be inspired by some Hollywood movies but the treatment is excellent. We also see Saroj Khan snd Remo D’Souza in some dance grooves in a guest appearance.
A musical dance extravagance ABCD is a visual treat to watch.
‘Put your heart into dance and dance will never leave your heart’, says the punch line and how true is that.
