So finally it arrives with a truck full of expectations so much so that people said it would be the best film of 2013. But, it lacks by just a bit. The third in the Dhoom series ‘Dhoom 3’ is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra. The cast includes Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Jackie Shroff.
The movie begins in 1990 in the city of Chicago. Thereafter you just don’t look back. A kid takes his revenge and the police chase him all over the town – the story of how a magician destroys a bank which once shattered his whole life.
The movie is truly a visual treat but lacks a story. It has tonnes of action but somehow becomes repetitive, too long and too often. The stunts in Dhoom 3 are like never seen before in Bollywood. They are just out of this world and thankfully not much is copied from anywhere.
The cinematography is simply outstanding. Some of the scenes are really breathtaking. Aamir’s and that of Katrina’s entries are too good while those of Abhishek’s and Uday’s are bad.
Abhishek is playing the character of Jai Dixit and is as he was nine years ago. Uday Chopra should now leave the series. Sometimes he is just irritating.
It is an Aamir Khan movie and he does carry it well all by himself. Katrina looks ever so beautiful with a well toned body and dances to perfection but has not much acting to do and is left with a handful of dialogues.
It is like a Bollywood revenge drama film with a modern twist. The chase is unending. The background score simply plays the Dhoom title song in various forms.
It could have been so much better. Movie buffs expected so much more from Dhoom 3. However, other silver linings are the dances, choreography and costumes. Katrina has done an awesome job in the entry song ‘Kamli’. Has she danced better ever!
The other song is the Tap Dance by Aamir in the title number ‘Dhoom Machale’… absolutely outstanding performance.
The movie stills and stunts take Bollywood to an international level. Truly one of the most expensive movies of 2013 but certainly not the best. The plot just happens to resemble the Hollywood movie ‘The Illusionist’. Is that just a coincidence?
