German writers, composers and philosophers such as Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Beethoven and Kant are well-known in the world.

There is a vibrant art, theatre, music and film scene in Germany. Lovers of classical music enjoy the Wagner-festival in Bayreuth or the Bach-festival in Leipzig.

Indoor and open air operas are very popular in Germany. The famous opera house in Dresden, called the Semper-Oper has a long history of premiers, including major works by Wagner and Strauss.

But there are a lot of rock festivals, too. The “Rock am Ring“ – festival is the largest music festival in Germany.

A big annual event is the Berlinale, an international film festival which takes place in the capital of Germany.

Then, one of the most important museums of science and technology is situated in Munich, called Deutsches Museum.

One can find world famous art collections in Frankfurt or Berlin, but there are many smaller museums and exhibitions in all parts of Germany.

While in Germany, the churches, medieval castles and palaces will show you the rich designs of German artists and architects.

In castle Charlottenburg in Berlin or castle Sanssouci in Potsdam, one can see Barock and Rococo architecture. A well-known example of classical art is the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Rich traditions experience best during the Oktoberfest in Munich, which is one of the largest festivals in the world.

People dress up traditionally, women in Dirndl and men in Lederhosen, to honour the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage in 1810.
