Murtaza Ali Khan: Independent Film Critic

Writing on cinema, art and culture

Murtaza Ali Khan

Murtaza Ali Khan is an independent film critic based out of Delhi. He writes on cinema, art and culture.

He regularly contributes to leading Indian daily The Hindu, while doubling up as Films Editor at the New York City-based publication Cafe Dissensus.

Besides, he also writes for The Sunday Guardian and DailyO, and appears on various Indian television channels and radio shows.

Murtaza runs a movie site called A Potpourri of Vestiges, which has been repeatedly acknowledged as a top-rated movie blog by leading media networks in India such as BlogAdda and Indian Top Blogs.

Feedspot selected A Potpourri of Vestiges as one of the 100 Best Movie Blogs on the web following a painstaking process that involved a careful scrutiny of thousands of Top Movie Blogs on the internet. It is the only movie blog in the list with a strong focus on the Indian Independent Cinema.

Murtaza has been columnist for online publications Huffington Post, Newslaundry, The Quint, and Desimartini.

“As a critic, it’s very easy to criticize films and filmmakers and give a demonstration of one’s superior, sophisticated taste. Appreciation, on the other hand, takes a lot of heart,” says Murtaza.

He has watched some of the best films from the world of cinema, and hence knows very well that not everyone can make the best. But that doesn’t mean people should stop trying.

Murtaza is a G Certified film critic and is active on Twitter and Facebook and can be reached at murtaza@apotpourriofvestiges.com.
